Question for softball (slow pitch) catchers?

I caught years ago, don't recall anything but my glove, which I'd bought to play the outfield. Anything hitting the plate was a called strike, I was there mainly to fetch at which the batter did not offer, or to make the occasional play at the plate. However, some leagues may require equipment, because of the liability if you get hit by a foul (unlikely) or by the bat.
