I have a 1987 Plymouth, Caravelle, 30,000 miles. Always starts and runs great. After driving 1/4 to1/2 mile?

it cuts out (like out of gas) after a few sprays of starting fluid (in carb.) it starts and runs fine the rest of the day. Has new gas filter. Any suggestion? Thanks
